Last year the CTC instigated a major shake-up of local group organisation. Structures now vary from region to region but the following remarks relate solely to the local situation.
Prior to 2008 South Hampshire DA (District Association), which covered the SO postcode had two “sections” Winchester & Southampton – each with their own officers and rules but ultimately responsible to the DA.
As from 2008, the use of the terms “DA” and “section” is discontinued. The term now in use is “group” (formal or informal). Following extensive discussion locally, South Hampshire DA became CTC South Hampshire (a parent member group with subsidiaries) and the two sections became CTC Winchester and CTC Southampton (subsidiary member groups). This was regarded as the option that nearest replicated what had been a successful working relationship in the past. The relevant motions were passed at the three AGMs in 2008. The Easy Ride group in Winchester and the Hares & Tortoises in Romsey remain informal groups and their structure has not changed.
There is no practical change to the way that CTC Southampton and CTC Winchester organise their events and you can continue to ride with either (or any other CTC group). The main practical change is to the system for declaring membership to CTC Southampton or CTC Winchester.
As in the past, all members with a SO postcode are automatically members of CTC South Hampshire, able to vote at General Meetings and stand for elected positions.
Members may also formally declare themselves a member of a subsidiary group (CTC Winchester or CTC Southampton). This does not affect your voting and representation rights with CTC South Hampshire but it allows you to vote at either CTC Southampton or Winchester meetings and be involved in their organisation. If you do not register as a member of a subsidiary group, you may not vote at its meetings or hold office in it (this is a national not a local rule).
It is important that members register with one of the local groups (CTC Southampton or CTC Winchester) as without registered members, these local groups cannot exist.
